Chennai: Germany-based Zollner Elektronik AG and Indian firm Avalon Technologies are exploring plans to set up advanced electronics manufacturing facilities in Chennai as part of a strategic joint venture, Tamil Nadu Industries and Investment Promotion Minister Virudhai Magal Keerthana said.
Keerthana said she met senior executives of both companies in Munich to discuss the proposed investment, manufacturing plans and opportunities for future expansion.
The discussions focused on developing high-complexity manufacturing capabilities in Chennai, including industrial electronics and box-build solutions for semiconductor equipment.
Zollner was represented by CFO Thomas Schreiner and Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Xaver Feiner, while Avalon Technologies COO Shriram Vijayaraghavan also attended the meeting.
The minister said the Tamil Nadu government had played a key role in facilitating the partnership, including supporting land allotment to Avalon Technologies for the joint venture. The allotment followed a memorandum of understanding signed at the Vettri Conclave on August 13, 2026.
According to Keerthana, the company leadership appreciated the state’s prompt response and support in securing land for the project.

The meeting also explored opportunities in supply chain development, research and development, and further expansion. Keerthana said Tamil Nadu would continue to facilitate investments by global manufacturers and strengthen its electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The proposed venture is expected to add to the state’s efforts to attract high-value electronics manufacturing and strengthen its position in the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) sector.
