Bhopal, July 17 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate 13 redeveloped railway stations across Madhya Pradesh through video conferencing on Friday, bringing welcome relief and modern comfort for railway passengers in the state.
This event forms part of a larger nationwide initiative where 75 railway stations developed under the ambitious ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ will be dedicated to the nation.
State Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on his X handle wrote, “Madhya Pradesh, advancing on the path of progress with continuous gifts. Today, I will participate in the virtual inauguration program of the redeveloped Tikamgarh Railway Station under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ by the honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji ji in Tikamgarh. On this occasion, development works worth more than ₹189 crore will be inaugurated and foundation stones laid.”
In Madhya Pradesh, the stations selected for transformation include Vidisha, Sanchi, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Beohari, Bhind, Harpalpur, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Junnardeo, Balaghat, Chhindwara, and Nainpur. These stations have undergone comprehensive redevelopment, emerging as world-class facilities that blend functionality with regional pride.
The upgraded stations now boast modern station buildings with attractive entrances, spacious and well-ventilated waiting halls, clean and hygienic restrooms, and improved drinking water arrangements.
Passengers will benefit from digital passenger information systems, LED displays, CCTV surveillance for enhanced security, energy-efficient lighting, wide foot-over bridges, and better connectivity between areas.
Several stations feature lifts and escalators, while ramps and other accessibility features ensure easier movement for the differently-abled, elderly, and women travellers. Also, better parking facilities, organised traffic circulation systems, and green zones have been developed within the station premises to create a more pleasant environment.
A distinctive highlight of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is the emphasis on incorporating the unique culture, history, and heritage of each region.
For instance, Sanchi station reflects its renowned Buddhist heritage, while Vidisha highlights its rich historical identity.
Other stations similarly integrate local architecture, art forms, and traditional motifs, allowing passengers to experience the essence of the city as soon as they alight. The redevelopment promises smoother access to ticketing areas, waiting halls, and platforms.
Real-time digital updates on train schedules will minimise inconvenience, while the overall clean, safe, and organised atmosphere will significantly enhance the travel experience. Well-planned parking and traffic management are expected to reduce congestion around station areas.
The initiative also encourages the sale of local products, which will create new employment opportunities and boost local trade and economy, particularly benefiting tourist destinations connected through these stations.
This major infrastructure push under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme reflects the government’s vision of providing world-class amenities to millions of passengers while preserving and promoting India’s cultural diversity.
For Madhya Pradesh, the upgraded stations will not only improve daily commute and long-distance travel but also support tourism and economic growth in the region.
