Bhopal, Aug 29 (IANS) Central Railway on Saturday said there was no deterioration in the health of 80 students who reported loose motion, vomiting and stomach discomfort while travelling aboard the Mangala Express, with a fresh medical assessment finding them stable.
The students, accompanied by 10 teachers and travelling in the S2 and S3 coaches of Train No. 12618 as part of a school trip, had reported symptoms during the journey from Thrissur (Kerala) to Delhi on Friday.
Railway medical personnel attended to 30–40 affected students at Khandwa, providing medicines and oral rehydration solution (ORS). The accompanying teacher decided to continue the journey, after which medical personnel travelled with the students to monitor their condition.
“Thirty to 40 affected students were attended to by railway medical personnel at Khandwa, and necessary medicines and ORS were provided. Medical personnel accompanied the students for further monitoring as the accompanying teacher desired to continue the journey,” Central Railway said in a statement.
The students were medically assessed after the train reached Bhusawal and all were found stable. A subsequent assessment conducted in the morning also confirmed no deterioration in their condition. “The situation is stable and under continuous monitoring,” the statement added.
Railway authorities did not specify the cause of the symptoms in their latest update and reported no serious medical complications among the students. Medical personnel accompanying the group continued monitoring during the onward journey.
The fresh update provides the latest assessment after medical assistance was arranged at Khandwa. Central Railway said the students remained stable at Bhusawal during the morning assessment, while monitoring continued.
