Ujjain, Aug 13 (IANS) A Special NDPS Court in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain sentenced a man to 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) in a 2019 seizure of 490 gm of heroin, an official of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said on Thursday.
The Special Court convicted Premchand Lodha and sentenced him to 10 years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI), along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh, under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
The court said that in the event of the convict’s failure to pay the fine, he shall undergo an additional one year of imprisonment, the NCB official said.
The case pertains to the seizure of 490 grams of heroin from Lodha near Riddhi Siddhi Hotel, Nanakheda Bus Stand, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on September 6, 2019, by NCB Indore.
The conviction follows a thorough investigation and effective prosecution by NCB Indore, reaffirming its commitment to bringing drug traffickers to justice and strengthening enforcement against narcotics trafficking.
In another case earlier, the NCB secured 10 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment, along with a fine, for two drug traffickers in an international drug trafficking case in Punjab that came to light in 2019 with the recovery of 115 g of cocaine and other contraband.
The Special Court, Jalandhar, Punjab, sentenced Akshinder Singh Sodhi and Amandeep Kumar to 10 years’ Rigorous Imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh each under the NDPS case, an NCB official said in a statement.
The case pertained to the seizure of 115 g of cocaine, 13 g of ephedrine, 80 g of hashish oil and intoxicant capsules in the Narcotics Control Bureau, Chandigarh Zonal Unit, in September 2019, the statement.
The NCB urged citizens to report narcotics-related information through the MANAS Helpline (Toll-Free: 1933). Informers’ identities are kept strictly confidential, it said.
