Bhopal, July 28 (IANS) Seeking to improve accountability in governance, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday announced that Ministers and government officials will spend every Friday in villages and urban wards from August 7 to review welfare schemes, hear public grievances and monitor field-level implementation.
The Chief Minister said the initiative, named ‘Jan Vishwas Abhiyan’, was approved at the state Cabinet meeting and aims to strengthen the link between the government and the people by ensuring regular interaction at the grassroots.
“The objective of the Jan Vishwas Abhiyan is to strengthen people’s trust in the government. Ministers and officials will directly interact with citizens, listen to their problems and ensure that they are addressed,” Chief Minister Yadav said in a statement.
Under the campaign, Ministers, MLAs, Collectors and other district-level officials will visit villages and urban wards every Friday instead of attending routine review meetings at the Secretariat, divisional headquarters or district headquarters.
The visits will focus on reviewing the implementation of government schemes, interacting with beneficiaries and assessing development works on the ground.
The Chief Minister said the campaign was designed to make governance more responsive by taking the administration to the people’s doorstep and ensuring that grievances are resolved without unnecessary delays.
“The government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach every eligible person and that public grievances are resolved in a time-bound manner,” Chief Minister Yadav added.
He said that officials would try to resolve complaints on the spot wherever possible.
Cases requiring further action would be monitored to ensure their disposal within a fixed timeframe.
According to the Chief Minister, the weekly field visits will also help identify gaps in the implementation of welfare programmes and improve coordination between the administration and public representatives.
He also said that strict action would be taken against officials and employees if cases of corruption, negligence or irregularities come to light during the campaign.
The initiative will be carried out without any additional budget and with an emphasis on simplicity.
Chief Minister Yadav appealed to people across the state to actively participate in the campaign by placing their grievances, suggestions and feedback directly before Ministers and officials during the field visits.
