Chikkamagaluru (Karnataka): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked for the welfare of the poor, the country’s development and India’s global standing, BJP MLC C.T. Ravi said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a cleanliness drive organised by the BJP rural mandal at Chikkagowza village to mark Modi’s birthday, Ravi described the Prime Minister as a “blessing from God” for the country and said Modi had completed 25 years in public life as chief minister and prime minister.
Ravi said Modi had described himself as the “Pradhan Sevak” and had focused on public service rather than treating political office as a position of privilege.
Cites welfare schemes
Ravi highlighted several central government schemes, including Jan Dhan accounts, PM-Kisan, Ujjwala, rural electrification and the Jal Jeevan Mission, saying they were aimed at improving the lives of poorer sections.
He said farmers were receiving annual financial assistance of Rs 6,000 under PM-Kisan and cited the expansion of banking, LPG connections, electricity and household tap-water coverage as examples of welfare measures.
Rs 1,281 crore Bhadra proposal
Ravi also spoke about a proposed Rs 1,281-crore project to fill lakes in Tarikere, Kadur and Chikkamagaluru areas with water from the Bhadra river.
The proposal covers lakes including Chandrakatte, Chikkagowza, Dasarahalli, Madarasanakere, Lakya, Hale Lakya and Devarahalli. Ravi said filling the lakes would support agricultural activities in the region.
The birthday celebrations were held as part of the ‘Seva Sankalp’ activities. BJP workers cleaned the premises of the Kanakadasa and Sangolli Rayanna statues and a temple in Chikkagowza.
ASHA workers involved in public service were also felicitated.
Rural mandal president Vijayakumar, Lakya Mahashakti Kendra president Sadashiva and other BJP office-bearers and workers participated in the programme.
Calls for ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047
Ravi said India’s global standing had improved under Modi and expressed his views on the country’s economy and development.
He wished the Prime Minister good health and long life and appealed to people to light lamps at their homes between 6pm and 7pm on Wednesday and pray for his wellbeing.
Ravi also called for a collective resolve to eliminate poverty, ensure universal education and promote self-reliance by 2047. He said an economically and socially self-reliant citizenry would contribute to a self-reliant India.
