Kolkata, Aug 1 (IANS) Kolkata Police has carried out another administrative reshuffle, transferring 18 inspectors serving at different police stations and units across the city, a senior police official said on Saturday.
According to an order issued by Ajay Nand, Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Soumitra Basu has been reinstated as Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhowanipur Police Station in south Kolkata. Although he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner (AC) on Friday, the city police headquarters at Lalbazar has directed him to continue overseeing the Bhowanipur police station while holding the new rank.
Prior to the Assembly elections earlier this year, Soumitra Basu had been assigned charge of Bhowanipur Police Station. He was subsequently transferred to the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police. Under the latest reshuffle, former Bhowanipur OC Rajiv Chatterjee has been posted as an inspector with the STF.
Among other changes, Dilip Sarkar, OC of Garden Reach Police Station, has been transferred to Kolkata Traffic Police, while Akhilesh Jha, OC of Metiabruz Police Station, has been moved to the Intelligence Branch (IB). Kaushik Sarkar, who had been serving in the Special Branch (SB), has also been posted to the Intelligence Branch.
Meanwhile, Sayan Biswas, previously with the Traffic Police, has been appointed OC of Metiabruz Police Station. Pratik Murmu, who was serving as Additional OC of Rabindra Sarobar Police Station, has been made OC of Garden Reach Police Station. Surajit Bhattacharya, formerly Additional OC of Metiabruz Police Station, has been posted as Additional OC of Hare Street Police Station, while Deepak Basak from the Enforcement Branch (EB) has been appointed Additional OC of New Alipore Police Station. Several other key police station-level postings have also been reshuffled as part of the exercise.
The latest transfers come weeks after the West Bengal government reshuffled 33 IPS officers on July 14. Among the notable changes was the transfer of IPS officer Supratim Sarkar from the post of Additional Director General (ADG), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and state intelligence chief, to the post of ADG, Telecommunications. Natarajan Ramesh Babu, who was serving as Director General of Correctional Services, was appointed as the new state intelligence chief.
