Chitradurga (Karnataka), Nov 4 (IANS) Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President B.Y. Vijayendra said on Wednesday that the party would launch protests across districts from Thursday against the rising prices of various commodities, accusing the Congress government of being ‘anti-people’.
“We will have to teach an appropriate lesson to this shameless and anti-people government,” Vijayendra said while announcing the statewide protests.
Speaking during the BJP’s awareness campaign and foot march, titled “Save Democracy, Eradicate Anarchy”, in Chitradurga, the State BJP President launched a sharp attack on the Congress government led by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
He described the state government as one without humanity and criticised it for increasing milk prices and now hiking bus fares.
Vijayendra said the BJP would take the issue of rising prices and the increased cost of living to the people through protests in districts across Karnataka.
He also accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of being unable to accept Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued leadership, alleging that they were attempting to create anarchy and topple an elected government.
“The people of the country have blessed PM Narendra Modi. However, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party are unable to tolerate Narendra Modi being the Prime Minister. They are trying to create anarchy and overthrow an elected government,” he alleged.
Referring to the Emergency imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975, Vijayendra alleged that the Congress had curtailed democratic freedoms, claiming that even journalists could not move freely during the period.
He also accused the Congress of opposing the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and alleged that Rahul Gandhi was unable to accept the government’s efforts to eliminate terrorism and Naxalism.
Vijayendra said the BJP was undertaking the awareness campaign to educate people and protect democracy.
Targeting Chief Minister Shivakumar, the State BJP President added that the Congress government’s “cup of sins” was full and claimed that farmers, the poor, Dalits and other sections of society had made up their minds against the government.
He expressed confidence that a BJP-led NDA government would return to power in Karnataka in the 2028 Assembly elections.
“Just as former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa provided a government that worked for farmers, the oppressed and the marginalised, a BJP-led NDA government will come to power in Karnataka in 2028,” Vijayendra said.
He added that neither the Congress, Rahul Gandhi nor Shivakumar had the strength to prevent the BJP-led NDA from returning to power.
BJP National General Secretary and Karnataka In-charge Harish Dwivedi, MP Govind Karjol, Legislative Council Opposition Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, MLAs M. Chandrappa, S. Suresh Gowda and G.B. Jyothi Ganesh, former Minister M.P. Renukacharya, Chitradurga district president K.T. Kumaraswamy, members of the Legislative Council, former legislators, local leaders and party workers were present.
