Osaka, Oct 19 (IANS) Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Monday invited Japanese industrialists to explore investment opportunities in semiconductors, green energy, electric vehicles and electronics during a high-level roundtable meeting in Osaka, as the state seeks to strengthen economic ties with Japan ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
The meeting, chaired by Sanghavi, brought together Japanese industrialists and investors to discuss strategic partnerships and fresh investment opportunities between Gujarat and Japan.
“Japan is the Land of the Rising Sun, and Gujarat is the Land of Emerging Opportunities,” Sanghavi said, highlighting the longstanding relationship between the two countries and the scope for expanding cooperation in trade, technology and industry.
Addressing representatives of the global business community, he said India and Japan shared ties rooted not only in trade but also in mutual trust, respect, common values and cultural connections.
He described the relationship between the two countries as a “longstanding friendship” with opportunities for further economic cooperation.
Sanghavi also outlined Gujarat’s contribution to India’s economy, stating that “the state, which accounts for around five per cent of the country’s population, contributes more than eight per cent to India’s gross domestic product”.
Gujarat accounts for 18 per cent of the country’s industrial output, while nearly one-third of India’s exports originate from the state, according to figures presented at the meeting.
He further said that Gujarat’s ports handle around 40 per cent of India’s cargo and that renewable sources account for 65 per cent of the state’s energy.
“Gujarat stands for speed, scale and stability,” Sanghavi said, referring to the state’s decision-making processes and transparent policies.
He described Gujarat as a gateway to India and India as a gateway to global markets.
Pointing to existing areas of Japanese engagement in Gujarat, the Deputy CM cited Suzuki’s presence, the bullet train project and Japanese industrial parks as examples of cooperation between the two sides.
“Gujarat is emerging as a centre for advanced industries, including semiconductors, green energy, electric vehicles and electronics. Japan’s technological capabilities and Gujarat’s talent pool could complement each other and create opportunities for collaboration in these sectors,” he added.
Sanghavi invited Japanese investors to participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, urging them to visit the state and explore business opportunities. “Come, see, invest and grow with us,” he said.
The Osaka programme also included 11 one-to-one meetings with investors and a roundtable conference under Sanghavi’s chairmanship, according to the state government.
Invitations were extended to Japanese industrialists to attend the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit as part of efforts to deepen investment and industrial ties between the two sides.
