Ahmedabad, April 18 (IANS) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday unveiled a nine-point “rights-based” manifesto for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), setting out commitments on governance, infrastructure, and public services ahead of the local body elections.
The manifesto, titled “Adhikar Patra”, was released in Ahmedabad by AAP state in-charge Gopal Rai, Central Zone Working President Jewel Vasara, and State Chief Spokesperson Karan Barot.
Rai said the party aimed to deliver “nine rights” to residents through its civic agenda.
“AAP’s government in AMC will give nine rights to the people of Ahmedabad. Our main promise is corruption-free governance,” he said.
Referring to the civic body’s finances, he added that the AMC’s Rs 18,508 crore budget was sufficient to provide quality education, healthcare, roads, and sanitation if utilised effectively.
He also claimed public dissatisfaction with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that its candidates were facing opposition during campaigning in cities including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Rajkot.
“Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation today has two identities: a mountain of corruption and a mountain of garbage,” he said, appealing to voters to give AAP an opportunity.
Rai added that more than 5,000 AAP candidates remained in the electoral fray despite multiple FIRs.
Explaining the manifesto, Vasara said it focused on transparency, basic services, health, education, mobility, environment, employment, welfare, and digital governance.
“Clean, transparent, and corruption-free governance is our objective. All decisions, tenders, and contracts will be conducted fully online and under live public audit, with a strict seven-day grievance redressal timeline and zero tolerance for corruption,” he said, adding that details of civic expenditure and projects would be made public.
On infrastructure, he said the party proposed round-the-clock potable water supply, a smart water management system to prevent leakage, complete redesign and modernisation of drainage networks, and scientific solutions to waterlogging alongside wastewater recycling facilities.
