New Delhi, July 27 (IANS) Delhi Police’s Special Cell has arrested a proclaimed offender linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi-Hashim Baba crime syndicate who had been evading arrest since September 2024 in connection with the murder of businessman and gym co-owner Nadir Shah in South Delhi.
The accused, identified as Saddam Hussain alias Sonu, was arrested by a Special Cell/NDR team led by Inspectors Alok Kumar Maurya and Nitu Kumar under the supervision of ACP Ashish Kumar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell/NDR) Praveen Kumar Tripathi on Monday said 16 members of the crime syndicate had already been arrested in the case.
Acting on a tip-off from a credible human source, the police tracked and apprehended Saddam from Amroha in Uttar Pradesh on July 20. Based on his disclosure, one pistol and three live cartridges were recovered from Delhi’s Shastri Park area.
According to the DCP, Nadir Shah, a businessman and co-owner of a gym, was shot outside his gym in Greater Kailash-I on the night of September 12, 2024, and later succumbed to his injuries. Investigation revealed that the murder was allegedly orchestrated by the Lawrence Bishnoi-Hashim Baba syndicate as part of an extortion attempt.
Police said Saddam, along with Sajid Faddi, a close aide of gangster Hashim Baba, had provided logistical support to the shooters and other accused involved in the murder. He also facilitated the concealment of weapons used in the crime.
Following the arrest of Sajid Faddi and other accused, Saddam went underground to evade arrest.
A native of Amroha currently residing in Delhi’s Jafrabad area, Saddam runs a children’s garment shop. Police said he entered the criminal world through his associate Sohel alias Chappal, a member of the Hashim Baba gang.
In 2013, Saddam was arrested along with Sohel in an attempt-to-murder case. In 2018, he was again arrested in an extortion-cum-firing case related to a demand of Rs 1 lakh from a businessman in Jafrabad.
Police said he has also been involved in two other attempt-to-murder cases linked to gang rivalry.
Saddam was wanted in various cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, at Greater Kailash Police Station. He had been declared a proclaimed offender by the court in the case.
