Jaipur, Sep 15 (IANS) Calling the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project agreement a historic step towards strengthening water security, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma said long-pending projects are now moving forward through consensus and coordinated efforts among the states and the Centre.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah for providing the political leadership that enabled the six-state agreement.
An MoU for the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project was signed in New Delhi on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil and the Chief Ministers of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi signed the agreement.
Describing the agreement as a significant example of cooperative federalism and mutual coordination among states, Chief Minister Sharma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
The Rajasthan Chief Minister said that under the Prime Minister’s leadership, the vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas’ is being translated into action through greater coordination among states, enabling the resolution of major projects that had remained pending for decades.
He said Rajasthan has received several significant water-related initiatives under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the Yamuna Water Agreement, Ramjal Setu Link Project, Narmada Water Agreement and Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project.
He described these agreements as important milestones in strengthening Rajasthan’s long-term water security and said their benefits would extend to future generations.
The Chief Minister said the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project would help ensure adequate water availability for drinking, irrigation and other requirements across the participating states, including Rajasthan. He added that improved water availability would provide a strong foundation for sustained development in the regions covered by the project.
The meeting was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, along with ministers and senior officials from the respective states.
The signing of the MoU marks an important step towards coordinated implementation of the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project and reflects the commitment of the participating states to work together on a long-term solution to water and related development needs.
The Rajasthan government said the agreement is expected to give further momentum to efforts aimed at strengthening water security, irrigation potential and sustainable development in the state.
