Bhopal, July 30 (IANS): The Congress has set up a dedicated committee to study tribal issues across Madhya Pradesh, with Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar announcing that the panel will undertake a state-wide exercise to gather ground-level data before presenting its findings to the BJP government.
The Madhya Pradesh Tribal Rights, Protection and Empowerment Committee, constituted by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), held its first meeting at the state Congress headquarters on Thursday.
Members discussed matters relating to constitutional rights, water, forests and land, education, healthcare, employment, livelihood, and overall development of the tribal community.
Singhar said the Congress would conduct phased field studies and outreach programmes in tribal-dominated regions before finalising recommendations. He stressed that the party remained committed to safeguarding the rights and dignity of tribal communities and would continue to raise their concerns forcefully before the government.
According to the party, the committee resolved to prepare a structured roadmap for tribal protection and empowerment, including consultations in different districts to collect ground-level information.
The meeting was attended by committee members Vikrant Bhuria, Bala Bachchan, Omkar Singh Markam, Phundelal Marko, Jhuma Solanki, Sanjay Uikey, Sunil Uikey, and Ashok Marskole.
The Congress has been attacking the BJP government over tribal welfare, forest rights, and land ownership, and the committee’s exercise is expected to strengthen the party’s political campaign on these issues in Madhya Pradesh.
