

Patna, May 30 (IANS) A tragic incident in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district claimed the lives of two youths who drowned while bathing in a pond in the Dubiyahi Chaur area under Dubiyahi Panchayat on Saturday.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire locality.
The deceased have been identified as 16-year-old Dheeraj Kumar, son of Alok Singh and a resident of Dubiyahi village, and 20-year-old Neeraj Kumar, son of Sudhir Singh, a resident of Tariyani village in neighbouring Sheohar district.
According to local residents, the two youths had gone to bathe in a pond along with another companion.
During bathing, all three reportedly ventured into deeper water and began struggling to stay afloat.
Upon hearing cries for help, villagers rushed to the scene and immediately launched a rescue effort.
One of the youths was successfully rescued from the water. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
However, despite the efforts of the rescuers, Dheeraj Kumar and Neeraj Kumar could not be saved and drowned in the pond.
Upon receiving information about the incident, police personnel from Turki Police Station reached the scene and, with the assistance of local villagers, recovered both bodies from the water.
The deaths have left the families of the victims devastated. Relatives and villagers gathered at the scene as news of the tragedy spread through the area.
Police have taken custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examinations. Necessary legal formalities are being completed, and an investigation into the incident has been initiated.
A pall of mourning has descended over Dubiyahi and the surrounding villages following the tragic loss of the two young lives.
Earlier, on Friday evening, three teenage girls drowned in the Gandak River in the Dumaria Ghat area in Gopalganj district.
The deceased was crossing the river in a small boat and reportedly fell due to strong winds in the middle of the river.
