Tel Aviv: Tragedy struck Tel Aviv as two people lost their lives in a shooting attack. Among the victims was a 42-year-old municipal security guard who bravely confronted a suspicious individual before being shot and critically wounded. Despite efforts by medical personnel at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, he succumbed to his injuries, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
The attacker, hailing from the West Bank city of Jenin, was found to have carried out the assault with the intention of perpetrating a “martyrdom” attack against Israelis, according to a letter discovered on his person. Local media quoted the Shin Bet security agency, confirming that he was a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).
During the incident, another security officer at the scene managed to neutralize the gunman by shooting him. However, despite being taken to the same hospital for medical attention, the assailant succumbed to his injuries.
The situation prompted a significant response from police forces, who are actively managing the aftermath of the attack, as stated in a police report.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed gratitude to the security patrol for their swift action in thwarting what could have been a more catastrophic attack, as stated in an official statement from his office.
In a separate incident, Israeli authorities arrested two Jewish settlers believed to be involved in the killing of a Palestinian civilian in the West Bank the day before the Tel Aviv shooting.
