New Delhi: “Mallikarjun Kharge, along with other Congress leaders, held a press conference at the party headquarters with Rahul Gandhi by his side, celebrating the Supreme Court’s judgment that stayed the conviction in the ‘Modi surname’ defamation case. Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification had lasted for 24 hours before the court’s decision. Hundreds of party workers gathered at the headquarters to show their support, distributing sweets and singing songs in favor of the leader.
Addressing the media, Kharge expressed joy over the victory of democracy and the Constitution, stating that the truth prevailed. He welcomed the court’s decision and emphasized that it wasn’t just Rahul Gandhi’s victory but a triumph for democracy itself. He pointed out the leader’s efforts in raising his voice for the people, fighting for the country’s welfare, and striving to create awareness among the masses.
Kharge also took a dig at the BJP, questioning how long it would take them to reinstate Rahul Gandhi’s membership in Parliament after disqualifying him so swiftly. He added that their fight would continue, and this victory belonged to the people, especially the voters and constituents of Wayanad, who were delighted to have their MP back.
Rahul Gandhi himself expressed gratitude to those who supported and believed in him. He reiterated his commitment to his work and stated that the truth would ultimately prevail.
The Supreme Court’s decision to stay the conviction came after the trial judge failed to provide reasons for imposing the maximum punishment of two years in the defamation case, leading to Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha.”
