Beijing: China has initiated an emergency response due to widespread flooding in 13 regions. The affected areas encompass Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Tibet, Shaanxi, and Gansu. The Ministry, cited by Xinhua news agency, has activated this response.
Over the upcoming weekend, heavy rainfall is projected to substantially raise water levels in various rivers, including segments of the Yangtze and Huaihe rivers. The Ministry has cautioned that certain smaller and medium-sized rivers in these regions might encounter floods that surpass the established warning thresholds.
The Ministry has emphasized the importance of vigilance for relevant water conservancy departments. They are urged to closely monitor the evolving rainfall situation and enhance early warning systems. Special attention is advised for safeguarding reservoirs and mitigating the risks of mountain torrents and flooding in smaller and medium-sized rivers.
