According to leaker LeaksApplePro, Apple is planning to launch AirTag 2 in 2025, which will reportedly come with “tons of new features,” including “3D Precision Finding.” The leaker mentioned that earlier estimates of 2024 are a bit premature based on sources.
On August 2, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had claimed that the AirTag 2 is expected to enter mass production in the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year. Kuo also suggested that Apple aims to build a new ecosystem centered around spatial computing, with Vision Pro as the core, integrating other devices, including AirTag 2.
The original AirTag was introduced by Apple in April 2021. It is a small and elegantly designed accessory that helps customers track and find their important items through Apple’s Find My app. The current AirTag features precision-etched polished stainless steel, is water and dust resistant, and comes with a built-in speaker that plays sounds to aid in locating it. The device also has a removable cover that allows users to replace the battery easily.
AirTag has proved valuable in reuniting users with their lost or stolen items. Numerous incidents have been reported where AirTag helped in tracking down burglars, recovering stolen possessions, and even rescuing lost pets like a one-year-old Australian shepherd named Seamus who was led to safety after falling into a storm drain during a walk.
With the forthcoming AirTag 2, users can anticipate exciting new features and advancements in the tracking and locating capabilities of the device.
