
Patna: Late on Sunday night, a courageous sub-inspector, Phulan Ram, faced gunfire from a gang of seven robbers while leading a police team on night patrol in Patna’s Beur locality. The incident unfolded in the vicinity of Patna bypass, also known as National Highway 31, at around 9 p.m.
The robbers were in the process of stealing batteries from a telecom tower in Beur when the police team arrived at the crime scene. Upon noticing the approaching officers, the robbers opened fire, hitting Sub-Inspector Phulan in his right hand. Swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, his condition is reported to be stable.
Undeterred, the police team pursued the robbers, successfully apprehending three of them, including the gang’s mastermind. Vikram Sihag, SDPO of Phulwarisharif range, Patna, stated, “We are analyzing CCTV footage and interrogating the apprehended individuals to uncover the identities of the remaining suspects. During the pursuit, the robbers abandoned the stolen batteries, of which we have recovered over 30. Additionally, a pistol, three live cartridges, and one spent cartridge were seized from their possession.”
Further investigations into the criminal backgrounds of the arrested individuals revealed their involvement in previous robberies and mobile battery thefts. Sihag assured, “Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining four accused as we continue our commitment to maintaining law and order.”
