Mumbai: Housing and Minority Welfare Minister, Jameer Ahmed Khan, conducted an inspection on Sunday of a residential complex in Mumbai, which was built through a successful Private-Public Partnership (PPP) project led by the Mumbai Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA). The residential complex is situated in Teachers Colony of Saibaba Nagar, Andheri East.
The PPP model involved the establishment of a slum dwellers cooperative society, which collaborated with the Mumbai SRA. The actual construction of the residential complex was carried out by a contracted organization. As part of the agreement, 50 percent of the land was allocated to the leasing company. Moreover, the contracting organization played a crucial role in assisting the beneficiaries in obtaining bank loans. They also took the responsibility of temporarily relocating the slum-dwellers during the construction phase and provided them with temporary housing support.
Minister Jameer Ahmed Khan expressed keen interest in exploring the possibility of implementing a similar PPP model for the Slum Development Board and Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation projects in Karnataka. He encouraged officials from the Mumbai SRA to visit Karnataka for a comprehensive study to assess the feasibility of such partnerships in the state.
Accompanied by Housing Department Secretary Naveen Raj Singh, former MP Harban Singh, and several other authority officers, the Minister also visited Shirke’s cement precast center and residential complex in the Taloja area of Navi Mumbai, further adding to his insightful exploration of different housing initiatives in the region.
