Jamshedpur, Oct 21 (IANS) Thieves broke into a locked house in Hill View Colony, under the MGM police station area in Mango, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and decamped with jewellery worth approximately Rs 12 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash. The incident has triggered concern among residents of the locality.
According to reports, Hill View Colony resident Anupam Ojha had locked his house around 12:30 a.m. on Mahanavami night and left with his family to attend Durga Puja celebrations. When he returned home around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, he found the lock on the main door broken.
Upon entering the house, Ojha found household items scattered across the rooms and the Godrej cupboard damaged. A subsequent inspection revealed that jewellery worth approximately Rs 12 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash were missing.
Ojha subsequently reported the incident to the local MGM police station. After receiving information about the theft, Vikas Singh reached the spot and conducted an enquiry into the incident.
Singh said the thieves had taken advantage of the house being locked and the cover of darkness to commit the crime. He added that the incident had caused significant financial losses to Ojha’s family.
Singh also informed senior district officials about the incident and demanded a prompt investigation, the recovery of the stolen valuables and the arrest of those responsible.
The police have launched an investigation into the case.
