New Delhi: The Ministry of Education has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a student at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Ranchi.
The committee will be chaired by Prof. Rajni Abbi, Director of the South Campus of the University of Delhi. A senior psychiatrist and a senior officer from the Ministry of Education will serve as members.
The ministry said the panel had been constituted to examine the incident and assess the implementation of relevant guidelines at the institute, which operates under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The committee will review the availability and functioning of basic facilities, institutional support systems, counselling and mentoring arrangements, and student grievance redressal mechanisms.

It will also identify systemic gaps and recommend measures to strengthen student well-being and help prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
As part of its inquiry, the panel will interact with stakeholders and examine relevant records and documents as required.
The Ministry of Education said it was also making suitable interim administrative arrangements to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the institute, keeping students’ interests and well-being in mind.
The committee’s examination is expected to focus on institutional support and campus systems, with the aim of improving student welfare at IIIT-Ranchi.
