Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the BJP, saying Rahul Gandhi would not be intimidated even if a hundred cases were registered against him.
“Rahul Gandhi is a born fighter. He has lived as a fighter and will die as one. Even if 100 cases are filed against him, he will not be scared of such empty threats. Unlike others, Rahul Gandhi will neither sign a bond nor apologise,” Shivakumar said.
He was speaking at a KPCC protest at Freedom Park in Bengaluru against the FIR registered against Gandhi in Uttarakhand.
Shivakumar said it was the Congress’s responsibility to make people aware of the direction in which the country was heading and highlighted the party’s contribution to the freedom struggle and nation-building.
“The strength of the Congress is the strength of the country, and the history of the Congress is the history of the country,” he said, adding that the Gandhi family had made sacrifices to keep the country and the Congress united.
Shivakumar also questioned the alleged “purification” of the venue where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had held a public meeting, alleging that the BJP had failed to justify the incident.
“This protest is not merely for Rahul Gandhi. If cases are filed against those who question wrongdoing, the Congress will not be afraid,” he said.
Accusing the BJP of trying to suppress voices, Shivakumar said its “end was near” and expressed confidence that the Congress would form governments in Karnataka in 2028 and at the Centre in 2029.
Referring to cases filed against Congress leaders, including those related to the Mekedatu padayatra, he said the BJP would get a befitting legal response in the case against Rahul Gandhi.
Shivakumar also said Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and other Congress leaders had not been intimidated by the National Herald case and accused the BJP of using political campaigns to divert attention from alleged injustices under its rule.
