Hyderabad, Aug 21 (IANS) An attempt to murder case has been registered against former OSD to Telangana’s Forest and Endowments Minister Konda Surekha, who is currently in the eye of a storm in the ruling Congress party following her daughter’s allegations against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.
On a complaint by a real estate businessman, a zero FIR was registered against N. Sumanth and five others at Medipally Police Station of Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate on Thursday.
Later, the case was transferred to Jubilee Hills Police Station of Hyderabad Commissionerate.
Gongidi Harikrishna, a resident of Boduppal, lodged a complaint. He alleged that he was assaulted with iron rods and sticks and threatened with dire consequences.
The case was registered against former OSD Sumanth, Ramu, Prashanth, Arun Kumar Reddy, Karthik and Mahender Reddy under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The complainant said he was assaulted by Sumanth and others on July 30.
Harikrishna stated that Sumanth asked him to meet at Ramu’s office. Sumanth questioned him about collecting money using his name. When he denied the allegation, Sumanth allegedly abused him and hit him with an iron rod. On Sumanth’s direction, others also joined the assault.
The complainant claimed that he sustained a fracture to his left hand, bleeding injuries and other injuries and that he underwent surgery on August 10.
The case has come to light amid the ongoing row in the ruling Congress party following outbursts of Konda Surekha’s daughter Sushmita against CM Revanth Reddy.
At her mother’s birthday celebrations in Warangal district two days ago, Sushmita declared that she would contest from Parkala Assembly constituency in the next elections even if she was denied a party ticket. She also made allegations of corruption against the Chief Minister’s family.
Taking serious note of the allegations, the disciplinary committee of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) issued a show-cause notice to the minister.
Surekha, in her reply to the notice, clarified that her daughter expressed her personal views. The minister also stated that she can’t be held accountable for statements and actions of her daughter.
This is the second time the minister has landed in a row over her daughter’s utterances.
Sushmita had also targeted the Chief Minister last year. She had made certain allegations against the Chief Minister after the police reached the minister’s residence in Hyderabad, searching for the minister’s sacked OSD N. Sumanth on allegations of extortion.
There were allegations that Sumanth threatened an officer of a cement company with a gun for extortion.
Sushmita had refused to allow the police team into the house, asking them to produce the arrest warrant.
She had alleged that Sumanth was booked to target her parents. She made serious allegations against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, advisor Vem Narender Reddy and Revenue Minister P. Srinivas Reddy. She alleged that her parents were being targeted as they belong to the backward caste.
