
Imphal: In Manipur, fresh violence has resulted in three fatalities. Suspected militants launched an attack on Kwakta Lamkhai village, carrying out indiscriminate firing that claimed the lives of three individuals. Several others were injured during the assault, and there are unconfirmed reports of two villagers being kidnapped.
In response to the attack, the remaining occupants of the village fled, and police with additional reinforcements rushed to the area to recover the bodies. The deceased were identified as Yumnam Pishak Meitei (67), his son Yumnam Premkumar Meitei (39), and their neighbor Yumnam Jiten Meitei (46).
The situation escalated further when a mob retaliated to the Kwakta Lamkhai attack by destroying and burning down several houses belonging to the tribals in nearby Ukha Tampak village, within the same Bishnupur district.
In another incident near Kwakta Lamkhai, an exchange of fire between state security forces and militants resulted in three injuries, including a policeman with splinter injuries on his face. All three injured individuals were taken to the hospital.
Following the Kwakta Lamkhai incident, multiple operations were launched by the Army. During one such operation, armed insurgents fired on an Army column at Mongcham, resulting in one insurgent from KIA being wounded and apprehended. Others managed to escape. A Self Loading Rifle, ammunition, and warlike stores were recovered from the spot.
