A total of 22 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) have been released from Russia. Andriy Yermak, the head of the Office of the President, announced on Telegram that on Monday, 22 Ukrainian soldiers were successfully brought back home from captivity. This group includes two officers, as well as enlisted personnel and non-commissioned officers from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. These individuals were involved in battles across various regions, and some of them have sustained injuries.
The soldiers’ ages vary, with the oldest being 54 years old and the youngest 23 years old, according to information from CNN.
Andriy Yermak emphasized that each of the released soldiers will receive comprehensive support for their physical and psychological rehabilitation, reintegration, and necessary medical treatment, all of which will be provided with the assistance of medical experts.
Yermak expressed his gratitude to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War and their dedicated team for their invaluable assistance in this process. He reiterated the commitment to fulfill the President’s directive and bring all Ukrainian citizens back home.
Dmytro Lubinets, the Human Rights Commissioner in the Ukrainian Parliament, noted that some of the released soldiers had sustained injuries, although further details were not provided.
Since the conflict began in February 2022, a total of 2,598 Ukrainian individuals have been freed from Russian captivity. This event marks the 48th instance of a prisoner exchange between the two parties.
